What a Generous Bunch!
There is a saying, ‘When things go wrong, don’t go wrong with them!’ There is so much need in our world at the moment; wars, natural disasters and huge humanitarian crises… it would be very easy to be weighed down under the weight of it all. In such times, we can be crushed under the burden, or we can turn our cares into prayers and actively try to make a difference. Our amazing school community has responded beautifully and worked so hard together to turn things around and make a difference in the lives of others.
Following the Turkey and Syria earthquakes earlier this year which left thousands of people destitute, we hosted events including 5-a-side football, raffles, bake sales and online giving, and raised a huge £2746.75 for UNICEF.
In July, our Year 7 and 8 Charity Reps hosted bake sales at break and lunchtimes for their nominated local charity, The Joshua Tree, and managed to raise £338.71 for local families affected by childhood cancer.
During the last inset day, our staff hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning and raised another £300. Perhaps there is truth in the saying ‘STRESSED is DESSERTS spelled backwards’ as cakes certainly seem to be a winner in our school community!
In the last couple of weeks, every Tutor Group has just nominated their Charity Reps for the coming school year and we look forward to working with them, as we launch our Harvest Foodbank Appeal this week. Donations of dried and tinned goods, plus any chocolatey Christmas treats can be left in the School Chapel between now and 26 October when we break up for half term. Thank you in advance for your generous support for needy families in this area.
Our school motto is ‘Caritas et Veritas’, love and truth. Indeed our word ‘Charity’ comes from the Latin word ‘Caritas’ and this expression of love was actually God’s idea…
“Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them and do not hide from those who need your help.” Isaiah 58:7, The Bible
We pray that the little we do would be multiplied by God and make a difference, not just in the lives of the recipients, but also benefactors as they see how together, as a school community, we can make a positive difference in the lives of others!
