...and rest!
After an action-packed year, the summer is finally here! Both staff and students alike have been incredibly busy, both with curricular and extra-curricular activities; the things that make each school day so varied and colourful. It is encouraging to remember that taking a rest from activity was God’s idea!
In 6 days, God made the earth, and on the 7th day, God rested and enjoyed the beauty of all that He had made. He also ordained (knowing what was best for us) that we too should take a Sabbath rest, a time to cease from labour, to be refreshed and to enjoy our families and God’s wonderful creation.
I always smile when I read the accounts of Mark 6 in the bible. Jesus, in training his disciples who have watched him perform many wonders, now tells them to go and do the wonderful miracles that he had been doing, only this time, without him. They take nothing with them, totally dependent upon God. Overjoyed, they return telling of all the great miracles God did through them…. and Jesus’ response?
“Come away with me to a quiet place and rest a while!” Mark 6:31
Notice how they are not told to go away by themselves to rest, but to ‘come away (this is an invitation) WITH ME to a quiet place and rest a while’. Jesus is inviting us to rest WITH HIM, for he is the source of our true refreshment and restoration.
I have heard it said, it takes 40 days to make/break a habit. Over the 6-week holidays (we have just over 40 days), let us enjoy our families, our hobbies and our beautiful world, yes, but let us make it our priority to spend some quality time with God each day, resting in Him and being truly refreshed and restored for all that lies ahead.
God bless you all!
